This is a common question as designer and decorator are often mistaken for being the same thing, but please note that these fields are not interchangeable!
Interior Design is defined as the art and science of understanding people’s behavior to create functional spaces within a building. Interior designers observe the problems in a space and seek to solve them while meeting a client’s criteria, resulting in final product that is also aesthetically pleasing. Interior Decorating relates to the furnishing and adorning of a space. Interior designers are usually required to have 4 year degrees from accredited universities while decorators are not. Interior designers may decorate, but decorators cannot design.

No project is the same, however the approach for projects follow a set of similar steps:
Concept- During a client consultation, the design team will discover your needs, wants, and the problems you wish to solve within your space.
Design Development- The design team will flesh out your project creating a 3D model of your space suggesting the colors, finishes, and furnishings that meet your needs and budget. This will be sent to you for approval and modifications will be made based on your feedback. Once approved, the appropriate drawing package for permitting will be created.
Construction Commencement- Once the design is finalized and appropriate permits obtained your project becomes our sculpture and the big changes start taking place! We work closely with all contractors to ensure that they are executing work per the drawings and to the quality standards set forth by Boudreaux Design Studio.
Installation- This is the exciting part when the protective coverings are peeled away, last minute touch-ups are executed, and the cleaning crew works their magic! White glove furniture deliveries are coordinated and everything is set in place with care as defined in the furniture plans. Professional photography is scheduled and you will get a copy of the photos to use for your future real estate needs.

This varies from project to project, but all projects require planning and patience. If your project involves kitchen design and remodeling with cabinets that come from Italy, for example, the lead time to receive the cabinets can be anywhere from 6-12 weeks. The same goes for custom-built cabinets. Time must be allotted for design, manufacturing, delivery and installation. Your design team will give you the lead time for each item and plan a custom schedule for your project, updating you along the way.

A floorpan is usually needed to get started. If you don’t have one we may be able to request one from the City on your behalf or may create one depending on the size of the space. In addition to a floorpan, we need some sort of visual to use as inspiration to establish your style (magazine clippings, web images or even the name of your favorite hotel or restaurant will do), and your budget.
